Stephen Curtiss

Graphic Designer

Stephen Curtiss brings a multidisciplinary design perspective to his work with JAF, drawing on his background in architecture, fine art, and visual communication. He is currently completing a Master of Architecture at Howard University, where his studies focus on the intersection of cultural narratives, community design, and visual expression. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Howard, where his design research examined the role of art, infrastructure, and storytelling in shaping urban communities.

With experience spanning graphic design, architectural visualization, and creative direction, Stephen specializes in developing cohesive visual identities that translate complex ideas into clear, impactful design. His work integrates digital media, illustration, and typography to create accessible graphics that serve both organizational needs and community engagement.

Stephen has also worked professionally with cultural institutions such as the National Building Museum in Washington, DC, where he has contributed to event design, public programming, and communications. His multidisciplinary approach allows him to bridge the worlds of art, architecture, and design, ensuring that every visual output communicates both clarity and cultural depth. In addition to his design practice, Stephen is a practicing artist whose painting and sculptural work informs his approach to visual storytelling. This artistic foundation strengthens his ability to create design materials that not only convey information, but also inspire connection, meaning, and long-term impact.
